LEVI YASTROW (USA)

Levi Yastrow is a ceramic artist based in Kent City, Michigan. His wheel-thrown pots are fired with wood and soda and then reduction cooled, a process through which he explores the technical and chemical interactions of glazes, slips and fire in the kiln. That investigation is shaped by his changing body and the way a progressive degenerative disease affects how he is able to make.

Rooted in the American pottery tradition of the Midwest, Levi is most influenced by the land around his studio: Midwest farms and orchards, the hills and valleys of Michigan's Fruit Ridge region, and the great lakes.

His work is held in the permanent collection of the Quartz Museum of Studio Ceramics in Whanganui, New Zealand. Levi has taught at the Ox-Bow School of Art, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Nelson Clay Week among others.
