Brendon Monson

Brendon Monson, a jewellery maker for three decades, showcases his work in exhibitions across New Zealand and abroad. Brendon completed a Bachelor of fine Arts in 2013 at Dunedin School of Art, where he now serves as a technical teacher/ lecturer and night class tutor.  Monson's fascination lies in the intersection of handmade and digital, exploring the intervention of the maker's hand in machine processes. His pieces reflect a dialogue between the tactile and the technological, imbuing digitized artifacts with the imperfections and subjectivity of handmade craftsmanship.

This series of work is CNC-carved from repurposed native New Zealand timber, sourced from heritage buildings in Dunedin. Drawing on a family lineage of carpenters, my work explores the intersection of Victorian colonial architecture and personal ancestry. Each piece reinterprets historical ornamentation—carving new stories into old materials and honouring the layered histories they carry.
