Oxidized minerals in the stone called Marsden Pounamu (Greenstone) form a particular stone known as Flower Jade, found on New Zealand’s West Coast. It contains a variety of colours including golden ochres. New Zealand is one of the few countries in the world that does not mine greenstone. It is instead gathered from glacial valleys and mountain rivers, managed by Ngāi Tahu as its kaitiaki (guardians).
