Ultramafic rock is extruded from the Earth’s mantle, that liminal space between the Earth’s crust and its core. This igneous rock has a high heavy metal content, making it a challenging substrate for plants to grow on. The Bryant Range is a low mountain range sitting between the Nelson Tasman and Marlborough regions and forms part of Te Araroa walkway.
