Landforms are ascribed anthropomorphic shapes; in Te Ao Māori, land and placenta are described by the same word, whenua; in the Northwest corner of the South Island of New Zealand, rolling hills offer prospect and refuge, but our topographies are vulnerable too from the forces of nature—slipping, cracking and eroding.
