Gorse charcoal on paper
1500mm x 810mm
$2,800 unframed
Jane Tan's choice of using gorse to make her own charcoal stems from her Scottish heritage. Seen as an invasive and problematic plant in Aotearoa, gorse is iconic in Scotland. For centuries it has been valued for its varied properties: keeping stock in fields, as an ingredient in teas, to dye fabric and as food for insects. By using charcoal from gorse Jane is connecting with her roots.
