Sally Burton
Sally's paintings navigate space and time. Multi layered surfaces create strata where images are unfixed and have a kinetic quality in changing light. Wood panels, tapa cloth, maps and other found materials find their way into her work and are often a trigger for both 2 and 3 dimensional work and these supports influence her imagery. Interest in natural history and the narratives of people who have moved through this land have been recurring themes for many years.
Sally Burton has exhibited regularly in galleries across New Zealand. Her most recent solo exhibition was 'Pale Histories' which was shown at The Suter Art Gallery in Nelson in 2018. This exhibition later toured to Porirua's Pātaka Art + Museum Gallery and the Millennium Gallery in Marlborough. She has work in numerous private and public collections here in New Zealand and overseas.
Sally's studio on the edge of the Waimea Plains near the coast of Tasman Bay in Nelson is a constant source of inspiration.
